Developing and implementing an effective Safety Management System is one of the challenges in most aviation organizations. This aviation SMS course provides the learners with the opportunity to undertake such challenges head-on by providing them with the tools, knowledge, and methodology to successfully implement an SMS in their organization in response to ICAO Annex 19, ICAO Doc 9859, and respective civil aviation safety management System requirements.

The course provides a comprehensive introduction to SMS concept for personnel in Airline Operations, Aviation Training Organizations, Maintenance and Continuing Airworthiness Organizations, those in Aerodromes and airports, Air Navigation Service Providers, ground operations and Air Traffic Control Services.

It covers State Safety Programs, Service Providers’ Safety Management Systems, Hazard Identification and Risk Management principles, Safety Assurance, Safety Performance Indicators and Safety Promotion and education. The course uses case-based studies to apply a practical aspect to theory learned.

Course Objectives
At the end of this course, the participants will appreciate how Safety Management Systems (SMS) enables organizations to identify and manage risk. With SMS we can identify Organizational challenges, fix them, and ensure that they stay fixed. Participants will learn that operating under an SMS is a disciplined and standardized approach to managing risk. Participants will learn that operating under an SMS an organization can review its past experience and address known hazards, at the same time looking ahead and rigorously apply SMS principles to any changes or introduction of new elements. Participants will learn that the SMS is rigorous. It is measurable. And it is repeatable.
